Derivative
This project focuses on the exploration of identity; who we are, what forms us, and what makes us individuals. I drew inspiration from African masks, which simultaneously conceal the wearer's identity and create a new identity. Wanting to create something three-dimensional, I made a pattern from a head form, repeating the design in incremental sizes. The progression in sizes of faces represents to me the generations that come before us and that have formed us.
This project was exhibited in the Spielzeug Welten Museum in Basel, Switzerland, as part of a denim exhibition featuring designers and design students from around the world.
