VENUS
The exploration of the concept of body fat served as the primary source for this project. Starting with ancient fertility figurines such as the Venus of Willendorf, I examined the relationship we have with fat from antiquity to modernity - both sexually, and as a beauty ideal.
Wanting to push the boundaries of shape and form, my goal was to construct a garment that accentuates that which is normally attempted to be minimized. Embracing the female form in all its variety of shapes, this project raises questions about what clothing does to our perception of the body.
